Adhesive oozing from pressure-sensitive labels can be addressed through the following methods:Procurement Stage
- Select high-quality products: Choose pressure-sensitive labels and adhesives from reputable brands or manufacturers with a strong track record. Well-established products typically feature more refined adhesive formulations and production processes, which help minimize oozing risks at the source.
Storage Conditions
- Control storage environment: Store pressure-sensitive labels in suitable conditions, ideally at a temperature of 18–25°C and relative humidity of 40–60%. Avoid high-temperature and high-humidity environments, as these can cause adhesive abnormalities and lead to oozing. For example, during hot summer months, avoid storing labels in enclosed warehouse corners exposed to direct sunlight.
Usage Process
- Clean the application surface: Before applying the label, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of oil, dust, or other contaminants. Wipe with a clean damp cloth and then dry with a dry cloth. This promotes stronger adhesion and reduces oozing caused by uneven surfaces.
- Apply correctly: Apply the label slowly and evenly to the target surface. While applying, use a soft cloth or squeegee to gently smooth from the center outward, removing air bubbles and preventing wrinkles that could lead to uneven adhesive distribution and oozing.
- Control application temperature: Apply labels in a moderate temperature environment, avoiding extremely cold or hot conditions. For instance, in cold winter months, allow labels to acclimate to room temperature before application to prevent adhesive property changes that may cause oozing.
Post-Oozing Treatment
- Wipe-off method: For minor oozing, use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with a small amount of alcohol, acetone (use in a well-ventilated area away from open flames due to flammability), or a dedicated adhesive remover to gently wipe away the oozed adhesive.
- Heating method: For more stubborn adhesive oozing, use a hairdryer or similar tool at a safe distance (about 10–15 cm) to apply even heat to the affected area. This softens the adhesive, after which it can be gently removed with a cloth or squeegee. Control temperature and heating duration carefully to avoid damaging the label or the surface.
